Flanders wants .vla domain names
Yesterday, the Flemish minister-president Kris Peeters has confirmed to Mark Demesmaeker (NVA) that the Flemish Government will carry on with its plan to request a personalized extension for Flanders. The necessary budgets (at least 100,000 euros) have been cleared for the registration of a personalized Top Level Domain (TLD).
It has not been determined yet what this new extension will be. .VL is not an option, since this type of extension can only be attributed to independent states. The alternatives on the table are .vla, .vln, .vlaanderen or .fla.
During the coming weeks, ICANN will make the definitive rules known. So stay tuned.
In the meantime, you can also preregister your personalized domain extension without further obligation. You can find more information about this subject our dedicated portal Your own domain extension.
