Coming soon: web addresses in Arabic, Chinese and Cyrillic
The die is cast: starting from the first semester of 2010, ICANN will also allow domain names containing non-Latin characters. Those domain names, known as IDNs or Internationalized Domain Names, have long been requested by very numerous Internet users. Starting from this month, EurID also offers .eu IDNs , which make e.g. garçon.eu or köln.eu available for registration.
ICANN has long been busy implementing the IDN technology. It is especially the conversion system that allows to easily convert the different writings (over 10,000 characters) into a web address that was a huge obstacle. As soon as we will have more details, we will let you know through our blog.
