Online Pharmacy in the Cloud

Farmaline.be started in 2008 as one of the first online pharmacies in Belgium. Back then, they exclusively sold health products, because selling medicines online was not authorized yet. Since February 2009, the law changed and Farmaline.be also sells non-prescription medicines online. The more than 15,000 products, with discounts between 5 % and 30 %, are discreetly delivered at home.

“The first website was entirely homemade, but it did not take long before we experienced the limitations thereof”, says Lode Fastré from Farmaline.be. “As far as website hosting is concerned, we started with the smallest shared package. And everything did not always go well. Especially after having sent newsletters or run certain promotional offers (e.g. free delivery), the hosting could not handle peak loads. The website was then unavailable and we knew we were losing money. Later, we moved on to a VPS and, after that, to Combell’s Managed Public Cloud solution.

Combined with the new efficient hosting, the new bilingual website, which was designed by the web design company Intracto from Herentals, is an absolute success. Now, we can perfectly handle peak loads thanks to the flexibility of Cloud hosting. It also puts our minds at ease. We can focus on more important things and are sure that the website is always up and running”, says Fastré.
