How can I add a website to my domain name?

If you already have a domain name but no website, there are various options for launching your own website. Let us take a closer look at them…

In order to have a website that is accessible to the public, you usually need three things: a domain namehosting and a website or web page.
Your domain name is the address where people can reach your website and your hosting is the place where your website is stored (a server belonging to your hosting provider).

However, there are other options, depending on your needs.

With a hosting package

Most people who want to create a website buy a hosting package and a domain name. Both come as a ‘subscription’: you pay a monthly or yearly fee for both the hosting and the domain name.

Creating a website with a hosting package is the most technical option for launching a website. You first create the website on your own computer, or have it created by a developer/agency.
As soon as the website is ready, you can upload it to your hosting package via FTP. And you’re done!

Tip: If you have a hosting package with us, you can install a CMS such as WordPress on it via our control panel. This will make it even easier for you to create your own website.

Linking a domain name to a hosting package is sometimes a bit cumbersome because you have to configure DNS settings and name servers.
If you order both from us, we will take care of everything for you. We will even offer you the domain name for free for the first year!

With a website builder such as SiteBuilder

If you want to launch your own website more easily, you can use a handy software tool such as SiteBuilder.

This will allow you to create your website online using drag and drop. You do not have to know how to code to use it, because it is specifically designed so that anyone can use it – including you!

Have you created your website just the way you wanted it? If so, you can publish it with just one click in SiteBuilder or ShopBuilder. A few minutes later, Internet users will be able to visit your website via your domain name. Easy as pie!

Here too, linking a domain name to a SiteBuilder can be a bit tricky if you have registered the domain name somewhere else.

That is why we recommend that you also register your domain name with us. That way, we will take care of the link for you. Plus, you will get your domain name for free for the first year. How great is that?

Is your domain name registered elsewhere anyway? Then, you can read this article: Go online with SiteBuilder and set up your domain name.

No website but a web forwarding (e.g. to a Facebook page)

Sometimes you just do not need to have your own website, but you do have a successful Instagram or Facebook page, an order page for your restaurant on takeaway platforms or any other online page.

In such a case, you can link this page to your domain name using web forwarding. Anyone who will then type in your domain name will be taken to the web page of your choice.

Forwarding is the cheapest and easiest way to link a website to your domain name, given that you do not have to create a website yourself.

Example
You set up a web forward with your domain name domainname.be. And the forward points to a YouTube channel, for example youtube.com/user/combell.

When people will visit domainname.be, they will come to the YouTube channel in question. And in the address bar of their browser, they will also see youtube.com/user/combell.
