Activate GZIP compression

GZIP compression ensures that your website will load faster. Why? When a visitor types the address of a page in their browser, the browser sends that request to display the page to our server hosting the site.

When GZIP is not active, our server searches for the page that will send it, and the browser will show it to the visitor.
When GZIP is running, our server finds the page, compressing it, and then sending it. The browser, if it supports GZIP compression like most do, will decompress the page and show it to the visitor. It seems like more work, but all this happens in no time and the compressed data is sent faster.

How do you activate GZIP compression?

Follow these steps in the control panel:

  1. Go to “My products” > “Web hosting” > Click on the button “Manage hosting” to the right of your domain name.
  2. Select “Performance & Caching” in the menu on the left.
  3. You will see the GZIP compression slider there. Switch it on.
  4. Do you want to try this out? Then go to this site: http://www.whatsmyip.org/http-compression-test/

Note: This option is not available for Windows hosting.
